Variable speed drives are a critical component in both industrial and commercial environments from paper machines to HVAC applications. They are also instrumental in the reduction of energy consumption and process improvement.
This blog entry is the first of a series of discussions regarding variable speed drives, it will provide an overview of North Coast Electric's variable speed drive offerings and how our Automation Group can help you save money.
Traditionally speaking, there are numerous existing opportunities to reduce energy consumption in both industrial and commercial facilities. Many of these involve a process or manufacturing related installation. There are also numerous non-traditional opportunities to save energy with variable speed drives that can lead to significant energy savings.
Variable torque applications such as centrifugal fans, blowers and pumps all have potential for energy savings. Anytime you have a fixed speed motor running across the line, even a small reduction in the motor's speed can result in a tremendous amount of energy saved in the process (see Table Energy Cost Comparison).
